THE SIGN OF A CHAMPION
Having called his
Chelsea team of last season “the little Horse” it is no surprise that Jose
Mourinho expects this little Horse to come of age this season and that have
happened.
Looking at the
aggressive and strategic way in which they shopped for players to fill the gaps
left by Lampard in the midfield and Didier Drogba in the striking department in
his active era, one begins to feel their intentions for the season.
Having out muscled the entire premier league
clubs they faced in the early stages of the season, a little setback came along
the way in the name of Newcastle united but that was temporary because it
didn’t last neither did it prevent the acceleration of the blues and their
dominance at the top.
Again, when a team is
destined to be champion, luck plays an important role in aiding their success.
That was why when Manchester city their closest rival at the moment had an
opportunity of topping the table for the first time this season after Chelsea’s
loss to New castle and a series of draws, they fumbled all the way until the
Jose Mourinho’s side recovered. To add to the woes of Manuel Pelegrini’s side,
the African nation’s cup arrived and snatched Yaya Toure and the dynamic Wilfred
Bony away and kept them for a long time in Africa leaving Manchester city
without a win throughout their stay in Africa. It could be a mere coincidence
or misfortune but whatever it is, it became an advantage that kept the London
side seven points ahead of their closest rival.
The arrival of Fabrigas,
Willlian and Diago Costa as well as that of the enigmatic club legend Drogba
turned everything around and without doubt made the men from Stamford Bridge a
title winning side, a side that never gives up, a team made up of dogged
fighters who struggle to the last whistle. It was exemplified in their last
game against a rugged Everton where it took a 98minutes Willian goal to settle
the scores and maintain their edge. Having added Juan Caudrado in the fold,
there is no more contention about the message passed across.
This is the deadliest
team in the premier league at the moment and certainly ranks among the best in
Europe of today. Love them, hate them, they look set for an unprecedented glory
in days to come.
