A new covid-19 mutation appears, May bypass mask wearing

A new COVID-19 mutation appears to be even more contagious, according to a study. Experts say it could be a response by the virus to defeat masks and other social-distancing efforts. Scientists in a paper published Wednesday identified a new strain of the virus, which accounted for 99.9 percent of cases during the second wave in the Houston, Texas, area, the Washington Post reported. The paper, which has not been peer-reviewed, said people with the strain, known as the D614G mutation, had higher loads of virus suggesting it is more contagious. Though the strain isn’t more deadly, researchers said it appeared to have adapted better to spread among humans. David Morens, a virologist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said the findings suggest that the virus may become more contagious and that this “may have implications for our ability to control it.” He said it’s possible that the virus had evolved to resist efforts such as hand-washing and social distancing. ...

What appears to be Twitter’s biggest hack just happened and  millions of dollars have been swindled in the crypto scam. Accounts belonging to Bill Gates , Elon Musk, Apple , Uber , Jeff Bezos , Kanye West , Barrack Obama among other prominent handles were hacked by Bitcoin scammers. Reports suggest that over 5,300 people have fallen for the scam already, and sent the hackers $7.8M USD so far. Twitter has already confirmed the hack and investigation and steps have been taken to fix it. The micro blogging app also lost 4% in stock value after the cyber attack. Package Explosion at Texas FedEx Facility Believed to Be Fifth Strike Linked to Austin Bombings

A FedEx employee was injured early Tuesday after a package explosion, believed to be bound for Austin and linked to previous bombings in the state’s capital, detonated at a distribution center in Schertz, Texas. The Schertz Police Department confirmed on Facebook that they responded to an explosion at the facility, which they determined came from the sorting area. NBC affiliate WOAI reported the package detonated while being transported from an upper conveyor belt to a lower one. The package contained nails and shrapnel, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.  The Washington Post  reports that the package was believed to have been headed for Austin, the site of four previous bombings. Judge enters ‘not guilty’ for man who killed own mum

A judge has entered a ‘no-guilty’ plea on behalf of a man standing trial for matricide. The 18-year-old man, Agugu Adau, who allegedly killed his mother for refusing to hand over a charm he claimed was his inheritance, appeared before a Plateau State High Court on Tuesday. Adau, a resident of Kisaghyip village in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, reportedly killed his mother who he accused of withholding a charm that was capable of making him disappear or reappear at will. He was charged with culpable homicide. The Police prosecutor, Mr U.F. Okeke, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 29, 2016, saying that it contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code and is punishable with death upon conviction. The accused, in his plea, pleaded guilty to the crime and tried to explain how he killed his own mother. Director hangs self in Kogi

A director in the Kogi State civil service, Mr Edward Soje has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree in Lokoja, the state capital. News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered on Saturday in Lokoja that the dangling body of Soje was found on a tree behind the mammy market at the Maigumeri barracks, the Nigeria Army Command Record. The 54-year-old civil servant decided to take his life barely 10 days after his wife of 17 years gave birth to a set of male triplets in a private hospital in Abuja. The couple had been childless before then. Soje, a Grade Level 16 Officer in the Kogi State Teaching Service Commission, was being owed 11 months’ salary arrears as at the time he took his life. He hailed from Ogori town in Ogori -Magongo Local Government area of the state. Tanzania suspends NGO for ‘promotion’ of gay marriage

The Tanzanian government said Saturday it had suspended an NGO it had accused of promoting gay marriage in contravention of local “customs, traditions and laws”. The move followed a police raid on a Community Health Education Services and Advocacy (CHESA) centre, which is accused of being involved in “the promotion of marriage between people of the same sex”. The government said “marriages between people of the same sex are unacceptable in Tanzania as (they are) contrary to the customs, traditions and laws of the country”. CHESA stands accused of organising last Tuesday a workshop for gay couples in a hotel in Dar es Salaam, the country’s largest city. Police made 12 arrests Wednesday at the hotel, including two South Africans and a Ugandan, for presumed homosexuality. 9-Year-Old Boy Wrongly Accused Of Defiling 3-Year-Old Sister

A woman, Chinyere James , has been arrested by the police in the Okokomaiko division, Lagos State, for allegedly torturing her nine  year  old cousin, Emmanuel. It was learnt  that the victim had been wrongly accused by the 28  year  old of defiling his three year old sister at their home on Akinberu Road , Okokomaiko. The aunt , without investigation , allegedly flogged him for hours, as his plea of innocence fell on deaf ears. A resident was said to have rescued him and reported the matter to the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender. An official of the agency , who did not want to be identified , said the case was reported to the police . Kebbi Suspends Immunization Exercise due to Unavailability of Pen

The Kebbi State Government on Monday suspended the polio immunisation exercise meant to commence across the 225 wards of its 21 local government areas due to lack of marker pens. The National Polio Immunisation ( NPI ) Manager for Birnin-Kebbi Local Government, Alhaji Bello Umar, confirmed the suspension in an interview with newsmen after the flag-off of the exercise at the Deputy Governor’s residence in Kebbi. Umar said that the commencement of the exercise had been shifted to Thursday, Oct. 19. “We are likely to receive the marker pens probably by Tuesday. “If it comes, we will commence the distribution of the vaccines on Wednesday while immunization proper will kick-off on Thursday this week. “However, all necessary materials to embark on the polio immunisation exercise are on ground, it is only the maker pens that are not available.” The Commissioner of Health, Alhaji Umar Kambaza, who also confirmed the suspension of the exercise, said that the markers would be avail...

Evans is alleged to have attempted to give between $50,000 and $100,000 to one of the guards manning his cell to facilitate his escape, The Nation reports. A Nigerian woman identified as Chioma Pius has demanded for justice after being beaten mercilessly by police officers for having tattoos on her body. According to her, she could not record the brutal incident because the officers seized her phones. The woman said she was assaulted along Emohua axis at the highway leading to Bayelsa.
