Brad Pitt, Angelina Breaks Divorce Silence

In the wake of their surprise divorce news, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have vowed to keep their split both amicable and private.

Brad, 53, and Angelina, 41, released a joint statement to People on Monday, Jan. 9 where they agreed to settle their divorce privately with details kept confidential by a private judge.
"The parties and their counsel have signed agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make any necessary legal decisions and to facilitate the expeditious resolution of any remaining issues," the message read.

"The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification," the statement concluded. The former couple have six children together — Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, both 8.

Angelina previously adopted Maddox from Cambodia in 2002 and Zahara from Ethiopia in 2005 as a single mother. Brangelina first became an item in 2004 after meeting on the set of their action-comedy film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Brad was married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston at the time but they divorced in 2005.

One year later — after Brad and Angelina went public with their romance — the actor adopted Maddox and Zahara in early 2006. In May of that year, Angelina gave birth to the couple's first biological child, Shiloh, in Namibia.

In 2007, the pair adopted another son, Pax, from Vietnam and Angelina gave birth to their fifth and sixth children, twins Knox and Vivienne, in 2008 in France.
