Don petitions senate over FG's negligience
The university teacher
who claimed to have discovered cure for HIV and AIDS, Prof. Maduike Ezeibe, has
petitioned the Senate over alleged Federal Government’s negligence. Ezeibe, a
researcher in veterinary medicine at the Michael Okpara University, Umudike,
Abia, said that he discovered the cure through his research conducted over
several years. Presenting the petition on Wednesday, Sen. Theodore Orji
(PDP-Abia) said that the professor had said that attempts to get Ministry of
Health’s cooperation on the discovery failed. “Medical doctors have been coming
to him through the Vice Chancellor to take this drug free of charge to treat
their patients. “They have been coming back to report to him of the potency of
the drug; that is to say that the drug is capable of curing people who have
AIDS.
“Incidentally the
Federal Ministry of Health petitioned the university that the man did not
follow the ethical process but refused to say whether the drug is potent or
not. “This professor has made attempt to go to the National Agency for Food and
Drug Administration and Control and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to make
his case known but failed because the ministry blocked him. Orji said the
petition to the senate was to ask it to look into the case to find out whether
he had done anything wrong by painstakingly working to help find solution to a
dreaded ailment. In his remarks, the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike
Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary, asked Orji to lay the petition
before the senate. It was subsequently referred to the Committee on Ethics,
Privileges and Public Petitions with four weeks deadline to report back.
