4 die, 18 injured in fresh Maiduguri IDP camp bombing
Five
suicide bombers who found their ways into camps for displaced Boko Haram
victims have blew up themselves, killing four persons and injuring 18 others.
The
suicide bombers sneaked into Gulumba, Muna Da’ati and Sini Baya IDPs camps
located at Muna area at the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno’s capital at about
4.30am, detonated the explosive devices strapped to their bodies. “In all, four
people were killed. Two at Gulumba camp, one at Muna Da’ati and one at Sini
Baya IDPs camp,” Police Commissioner, Borno Command Damian Chukwu told Daily
Sun at the scene.
A
total of 18 people were injured and have been evacuated to the hospital for
treatment,” the police chief added.
Chukwu
urged residents to be more vigilant to foil attempts by Boko Haram bombers to
infiltrate their communities to detonate bombs. He however maintained the
affected camps were not officially recognized by the authority. Executive
Chairman, Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Ahmed Satomi who was
also at the scene of the blasts insisted that “due process was not followed in
the establishment of the camp” making it susceptible for penetration by the
Boko Haram bombers.
The victims
are displaced persons that fled their homes at Gulumba in Kala Balge Local
Government, Dikwa and Konduga local governments in the central part of Borno
State, witnesses said. Spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency
(NEMA), northeast, Abdulkadir Ibrahim in a statement said the first location,
Gulumba houses about 199 internally displaced persons.
