On that Pitch in Lisbon

Like many other nights of great cup finals, the grand finale of this year’s UEFA champion’s league is poised to be one of the greatest of all the nights. This belief is unconnected with what is at stake.
For over 59years, this will be the first time a team from the same city will be trading tackles in a European football grand finale. The trophy is one of those things at stake, but the rivalry, the pride and the desire for glory are the major factors that will light up the pitch in Lisbon.
Atletico Madrid having been fired up for glory by their overwhelming move to the finals of the champion’s league and the confidence incurred from an amazing run in la liga which landed the trophy in their domain will be poised to make it an unbelievable double by conquering their age long foes Real Madrid on Saturday night.
It is obvious that this will not be an easy mission because Real Madrid who has been in pursuit of that elusive la decima for many years now will give everything within their reach to ensure that this time, it will come home to the Santiago Bernabeu.
They both have the man power to execute this mission, the men from Madrid at this particular time boasts of the finest of players and coaches around, which no doubt is why they got to the finals.
Looking at the available generals that are expected to carry out this all important operation, one will be left with no doubt about how scintillating the battle will be.
It has been a Diago Costa season, his fine form unarguably is one of the reasons why the Los Colchomeros is in the finals, though some elements of doubt are surrounding his availability for the finals on Saturday but even if the 38-goal top scorer would not make it, they still have some fine arsenals that could take his place such as Raul Garcia who is equally a prolific scorer and a fine attacker. Though Arda Turan is also a doubt, but David Villa could stand in on his day. Same could be said of Diago Godin who even as a centre back has five goals to his credit and could make it a historic six on Saturday night.
The Los Blancos also have a great attacking prowess to their credit. With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo who has an incredible 16-goals in just 10 champions league games exceeding his Argentine rival Lionel Messi who has 14goals in the 2011-2012 season. Ronaldo equally has an amazing 12 goals in 12 Derbis Madrilenos. With this, one will expect that if he makes it to the pitch in Lisbon, he could cause some elements of panic in Atletico’s 18yard box. Same could be said of Karim Benzima, though not as prolific as Ronaldo, he could be a source of worry for the opponents on his day.
Having demonstrated the true spirit of a super talent and an appetite for the big occasion with his winning goal in the Copa Del Ray finals, Gareth Bale is another dangerous tool in the hands of Coach Carlo Anceloti which could be the decider when the chips are down. The Los Blancos also boast of a goal scoring defender in the person of Sergio Ramos though out of the match in some games, but he could spring surprises in his day.
Knowing the technical and tactical abilities of Coach Diago Simeone, one will expect him to keep things tight and strike at any given space through a counter attack or set pieces, a tactics that worked miracles in Camp Nou. But no one should take anything away from Anceloti, he is always with his wits. It will be a winner takes it all on that pitch in Estadio do sport Listboa e Benfica
