Gareth Bale has opened
up about the conversation he had with Romelu Lukaku moments after Manchester
United's pre-season friendly with Real Madrid.
The Red Devils beat Los
Blancos 2-1 on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate at the Levi's Stadium in Santa
Clara, with goals coming from Jesse Lingard and Casemiro.
The game concluded with
a poor penalty shoot-out in which just three of the ten spot-kicks taken by
both sides were scored as United prevailed 2-1.
After the match Bale,
who has been linked with a move to the Old Trafford club this transfer window,
was seen having a chat with Lukaku.
the Welshman revealed
what he discussed with the Belgian: "I just wished him good luck - obviously
he's just signed there.
"I just wished him
luck for the season and hope he has a great season. He's been playing long enough, he's done very well in the
Premier League and I'm sure he'll do great for them.
On Real Madrid's
ambitions ahead of the new season, he added: "Us as a team every season we
go into every competition looking to win it and it's no different again this
year.
"We've also got
the motivation to do that and we'll be trying our hardest to win every
competition we enter.
"First game of
pre-season - for us it's about getting the cobwebs out, get started on getting
game time and obviously we would have loved to have won but that's the way it
goes."
